Biosketch:

Tina Raine-Bennett has been a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at The University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine since 1998. She received her medical training at the University of California, San Diego and post-graduate residency training and MPH at the University of Washington in Seattle. Her current responsibilities include: 1) serving as Medical Director of the New Generation Health Center, a family planning and STD clinic for adolescents and young women, 2) conducting research on improving contraceptive use among adolescents and women at high risk for unintended pregnancy, and 3) providing resident and medical student education and supervision in Obstetrics and Gynecology at San Francisco General Hospital. Her research is focused on improving contraceptive use as a part of a comprehensive approach to reducing disparities in unintended pregnancy rates, particularly among adolescents and minority women. In addition she is also involved in clinical trials designed to determine ways to improve access to and utilization of emerging contraceptive methods.

Title: Access to Emergency Contraception: Evaluation of Pharmacy Distribution and Advance Provision

Major Project Goal: This randomized trial evaluates the effectiveness of different distribution mechanisms on the use of emergency contraception and unintended pregnancy rates.

Title: STD Risks Associated with Adolescents Sexual Networks
Key Funder(s): NIH/NIAID
Major Project Goal: The study explores behavioral and developmental factors associated with membership in STD risk-related social and sexual networks and the accuracy of adolescents' perception of risk for STDs. The purpose of the supplement is to improve our understanding of underlying dimensions of partnerships specifically among sexually experienced African-American adolescents at risk for STDs and unintended pregnancy.

Title: Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative - Expanding Access for Young Men at the New Generation Health Center
Key Funder(s): California Wellness Foundation - ends 7/2003
Major Project Goal: This project is designed to increase access to services for young men at a family planning clinic by providing a peer-education and outreach program to local high schools and implementing a male clinic at the center.
